Cristiano Ronaldo’s hat-trick sends Portugal into Nations League final

Cristiano Ronaldo scored a hat trick when Portugal defeated Switzerland 3-1 to reach the final of the inaugural UEFA League of Nations

Ronaldo celebrating after his goal for Portugal

Ronaldo converted a free kick in the first half and then scored two final goals to give the hosts a place in Sunday's final of the most recent UEFA competition.

Portugal will play with the Netherlands or England, which will meet in the other semifinal on Thursday in Guimaraes. Switzerland will face the loser of that game in third place, also on Sunday.

The second-half draw for Switzerland by Ricardo Rodríguez came from a highly controversial penalty awarded after a video review that nullified a penalty that had been awarded to Portugal while the game continued.

I can not decide if this is a very, very good free kick by Cristiano Ronaldo or very bad goalkeeper by Sommer.

Either way, it is Ronaldo's 86th goal for Portugal.

UEFA created the League of Nations to give the national teams more meaningful games and reduce the number of friendlies.
